Bengaluru: A 25-year-old city-based woman has alleged that her husband dumped after she delivered a baby girl. The husband had dropped her off at her mother’s house in Nayandahalli and after he learned that she had given birth to a girl, he distanced himself from her and recentmarried another woman. The woman, Shabana Taj, filed a complaint against him at a local court, and also at the All Women’s Police Station in Ulsoor Gate. However, the police were not of much help. She has now approached several NGOs for justice.
Shabana married Syed Moinuddin, 33, nearly three-and-half years ago. They were living at Nangli, a village in Kolar District. For Shabana things turned sour after she delivered a baby girl on March 31, 2013. “Twelve days after my daughter was born, my husband told me that he wanted a boy and cannot take us to his home. Since that day I have been running around for justice for my daughter. I lodged complaints at a court and at the police station, but there has been no progress. My father expired around 8 months ago due to depression, and my mother is a heart patient. My brother is running around for me,” Shabana said. “I don’t want my husband back as he had married another woman. I only want justice for my daughter and he will have to compensate for securing my daughter’s future,” Shabana said.
“It’s been two years since I had lodged a complaint at the All Women’s police station, but all that the police did was to call and harass my family members at the time of my father’s death. They (police) told me that Syed Moinuddin had come to the police station when my father had expired and summoned me and my family members to the station,” Shabana Taj said. “Hence, now I have approached several NGO’s who have promised me help in getting justice,” she added. Syed Moinuddin, however, denied the allegations. He said, “Shabana is making baseless allegations against me. I have no problem at all having a baby girl. She had cooked up this story as I turned down her demand to settle in Bengaluru.” “I do not want to disclose whether I am re-married or not as that is immaterial at this point,” Moinuddin said.
