BENGALURU: The ruling Congress has decided to contest the elections to zilla and taluk panchayats without forging an alliance with other parties, just as it did in the case of polls to the Legislative Council, KPCC president Dr G. Parameshwar announced on Saturday. He told the media here: “Our party will field candidates in all 1083 and 3902 zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat seats. There will be no alliance or friendly contests in any seat. We are already in the middle of elections for MLCs, and under such circumstance why would any political party initiate dialogues over an alliance?” he asked adding that the party was confident of winning a majority of the seats of local bodies.

He claimed that Congress was confident of winning all 20 seats during polls to the upper House as the state government and Congress was set to usher in the New Year, wining all 20 seats. He said that the KPCC was expecting announcement of dates for elections to local bodies in the middle of January. “I have also constituted district candidate selection committees across the state, and the process of selection of candidates would be completed by January 1 by all these committees. Subsequently, the state unit will finalise the names,” he added.
Dr Parameshwar asserted that the state Congress had been following a set pattern for selection of candidates for various elections, and the party would take every possible step to keep criminals at bay.
