KOTTAYAM: The left parties, including the Communist Party of India (Marxist), are no different from the extremist and fascist forces propagating communal hatred, writer Anand said.

He said the left parties were perpetrating extremism in another form similar to that of the fascist forces.

Mr Anand said that he found them even worse than the religious extremists at times, and that they had no respect for the freedom of citizens.

The writer said the need of the hour was a political movement led by the younger generation sidelining the traditional political parties of all hues.

He, however, suggested no particular ideology on which the new movement should be built.

Mr Anand spoke to Deccan Chronicle in an exclusive interview when he reached here to attend a cultural program.

“The people of the state should extricate themselves from the traditional notion of depending on the left and right parties. They should look for new alternatives. The younger generation should lead that movement,” Mr Anand said.

He said the incidents of intolerance in India had parallels in Bangladesh and Pakistan. “More than writers, the forces of intolerance are directly affecting the ordinary people. This has been going on for some time now, and these divisive forces are getting a space as we allow it,” he said.
