Vijayawada RTC bus stations to be beautified
The corporation decided to spend sufficient money on minimum amenities
Vijayawada: Beautification of all district-level bus stations of the APSRTC in the state will be completed within a month. It includes construction of toilets, arranging comfortable chairs, fans, painting the walls and beautification of pillars to attract advertisements and placing direction boards.
In order to ensure comfortable waiting for the passengers, the corporation decided to spend sufficient money on minimum amenities and provisions, said vice-chairman and managing director of APSRTC N. Sambasiva Rao.
He accepted that the business practices of the corporation as well as the commercial shops at every bus station have been in a poor state. He observed that there was an urgent need to initiate necessary measures for sustainability of the corporation. He explained that as part of this aim, they have been changing the appearance of the bus stations in the entire state.
Mr Sambasiva Rao stated that even after the bifurcation of the corporation, they have been successfully transporting at least 50 lakh passengers per day, which is a record. He said that they purchased 3,000 chairs from a foreign company in China. He said that if they buy the same chair in India it would cost at least Rs 12,000 per single chair. Now they were able to buy the chairs with an amount of roughly Rs 6,500 per chair.
He said that beautification works of Pandit Nehru Bus Station at Vijayawada, which is spread across 22 acres of land, was about to be completed within a week. He added that they have targeted to complete the same works in every district-level bus station by this month-end.
