You know what is better than going on a luxury cruise? Going on a luxury cruise with Sachin Tendulkar. Thankfully, what sounds like one of those scratch-a-card-and-win-the-prize taglines is a reality available at a (slightly exorbitant) price. Come 2016, not only do fans of the Master Blaster get to rub shoulders with him in a cruise, they get to witness a rare phenomenon where Brett Lee, Shane Warne and Kumara Sangakkara come together on a sea trip fulfilling what can only be a cricket fan’s idea of paradise! Not ones to lag behind when it comes to cricket mania, Bengaluru youngsters are raring to catch a singular candid glimpse of the cricketing gods on holiday.
The lure of meeting childhood idols while taking to the sea, wrapped in opulence is something that would draw even the most avid of travellers, off the beaten track. City professional and solo-trekker Gargi Bhattacharya, says, “I am a huge cricket fan and can totally understand the draw of such a trip for people who wouldn’t care to step on a ship, usually. Not only is this a chance to enjoy the beautiful sea but also to meet people we grew up idolising. Yes, I probably would not be going on a cruise normally and forever keep it in the bucket list. But meeting those people would be incentive enough to actually save up and make a move on the plan.”
City folk with spending capacity would be hard pressed to give up the opportunity to sit back and watch cricket celebrities in their natural habitat. Travel blogger Mukta Chakravorty, says, “Just as Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara made the road trip famous and Dil Dhadakne Do spelt a boost in the popularity of the lavish cruise, whenever there is a celebrity factor involved, there is a generation of interest around it. While for seasoned travellers, celeb interactions would come with a price of not being able to plan your own travel, for others who would like to live the good life, this is perfect.”
A cruise on which people can get a cricket lesson from Sachin, a joke or two from Vir Das at their table or a hearty talk with Neha Dhupia, would unite the twin passions of Bengaluru and India – showbiz and cricket. Somesh Jagga, who runs Monarch, which has conceptualised this, says, “There will be red carpet stops at every port to give people a taste of the high life. It is intended for young folk who would not mind spending to enjoy some company.”
