ChennaiA 78-year-old woman, allegedly thrown out of her own house by her son, daughter-in-law and grandson in Panaimedu village in Nagapattinam district, has approached the Madras high court to restrain them from interfering with her personal life and property. Justice M.M. Sundresh, before whom the petition filed by Valli Murugan came up for hearing, ordered notice to the Nagapattinam district collector and five others and posted after two weeks further hearing of the case.

Petitioner’s counsel I. Ponnudurai submitted that Valli got married to Murugan and they have a daughter and son. Since they hail from a suppressed class and are uneducated, they provided good education to their children. While her daughter was working in a nationalised bank, her son was working in the Commercial Tax department.

Her son and daughter-in-law were living separately since their marriage, but without taking care of her and her husband.
Valli and her husband own 66 cents of Nanjai land and 2 acres of fertile land and a house.

In 2006, her husband executed a will as per which the house was bequeathed to her and the lands were divided among their two children. After the death of her husband in 2008, she was living alone with some help from her daughter.

In July 2015, her grandson brought an unknown girl to her house and sought shelter.
After a few days, her grandson forcibly kept her out of her house and thereafter her son and daughter-in-law joined with their son and started harassing her. They also threw her out of her house.

When the villagers came to her rescue, they threatened them with their political influence. They threw her into the street without even considering her age and had encroached upon her properties. She lives on the street now with some help from the villagers and had lodged several complaints with the police, who failed to take action.
She filed the present petition to forbear her son, daughter-in-law and grandson from interfering with her life and property, Ponnudurai added.
