Thiruvananthapuram: Indians have always been great fans of sports. We like to watch and play games. However, we are not aware of what happens behind the sports. Sijin B. T., the chief volunteer of Synergians, which trains sports management professionals told DC that sports industry is a great hub of exciting careers.

Apart from players and coaches, it offers many other jobs. However, most of them are unknown to Indians, even though they are available here. Here are listed some important sports management careers:

Sports Analyst

Before, during and after sports events on television and radio, fans rely on sports analysts to deliver insight and information related to the game, and behind-the-scenes knowledge to which average fans aren't privy. Many professional sports analysts have university degrees related to their career while others have an encyclopedic kno-wledge of the sport thr-ough a career as a player or coach.

Some of the world renowned sports analysts are Vin Scully, Dick Enberg, Al Michaels, Brent Musburger and Marv Alb-ert. Top Indian sports analysts are Harsha Bhogle, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Mayanti Langer, Mandira Bedi and Lekha Washington.

Sports Agent

Sports agents handle financial and legal matters for their professional athlete clients. Some of their duties include negotiating salaries and securing contracts. A love of sports coupled with a legal or accounting background make the ideal combination for this career.

Although formal education isn’t always necessary, it’s common for sports age-nts to hold a bachelor's de-gree in a field such as spo-rts management or sports business. World’s top spo-rts agents are Scott Boras, Don Meehan, Tom Condon, Arn Tellem, Sam and Seth Levinson and David Dunn.

Sport Psychologists

Sports psychology deals with the relationship between the physical performance and psychological factors affecting an athlete’s output on and off the field. It also draws concepts and principles from related areas of kinesiology, physiology, psychology and biomechanics. Sports psychologists help athletes in various aspects they might need support or assistance in including motivation, coping with performance anxieties, teamwork and recovering from injury. Some famous Sports psychologists are Coleman Griffith, Dr Alan Goldberg, Dr John F. Murray, Robert M. Nideffer and Terry Orlick.

Sports Therapist

Sports therapists give advice to sport and exercise participants on how to train and compete safely, as well as treat injuries and assist with rehabilitation. Their aim is to prevent injuries and to help the injured to return to full fitness. Sports therapists may work in sports injury clinics or may work directly with a sports club or sportsperson, either professional or amateur or both.

Many therapists combine working in this discipline with other sports-related roles. They may have a ra-nge of clients and workpl-aces, rather than being employed by one organisation.

Sports PR Officer

Sports PR officer uses all forms of media and communication to build, maintain, and manage the reputation of sports organisations ranging from sports agencies, sports training institutions and sports retailers. The primary task of the sports PR officer is to build on the reputation of the sports agency or sports training institute or the products marketed by the retailer and its quality.

Sports PR aims to manage reputation to gain understanding and support, and influence opinion and behavior. Most sports organisations and committees rely on the sports PR professionals to garner enough publicity to increase revenue and backing for the game. Sports PR officers also supervise the working of the stores and provide suggestions to the management to enhance the overall sales impact. They also design hoardings and billboards and rely on outdoor advertising for the purpose of promotion of sports persons and their records.
