Warangal: The state government is extending support to the Kakatiya Textile and Weavers’ Welfare Society to set up a textile park at Madikonda in Warangal by allotting 161 acres of land and is providing Rs 10 crore for weavers who have come forward to set up their own power looms here, said Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari on Sunday.

Speaking after inspecting the ongoing work of the textile park, Mr Srihari said, “The state government is providing help to these weavers to set up powerloom units and this has nothing to do with the textile industry proposed by the state government. This textile park will provide direct employment to 2,000 people and indirect employment to another 10,000. We are going to provide basic facilities for them here. The intention is to bring back the handloom weavers of Warangal who migrated to Surat, Gujarat.”

The textile industry proposed to be built by the state government requires 3,000 acres and the land acquisition process is underway. In the first phase, 364 handloom workers were sanctioned land at the proposed site and by December next year, they will be handed over the land, complete with layouts and basic facilities like roads, streetlights, drainage system etc.
