Patrick Dempsey brushes off Shonda Rhimes
Actor says the writer likes to be a little “provocative”
Responding to comments that Grey’s Anatomy show-runner Shonda Rhimes had made regarding killing off characters on her show that she didn't get along with, Patrick Dempsey — whose character Dr Derek Shepherd was killed off at the end of the final season — said that her comments were only because she liked being “provocative”.
Patrick told Entertainment Weekly, “I think she loves being provocative and that’s fine for who she is. That gets people talking about all the stuff that she’s doing. I think she knows how to deal with the media and what she needs to say to get the response that she’s looking for. She’s very savvy.”
When asked if she had killed off characters whose actors she didn’t like, Shonda had earlier said, “Yes, and I’m not naming names.”
