Visakhapatnam: With the Vizag city police chalking out plans to crackdown on midnight parties and drunk driving New Year’s Eve, residents are finding alternative venues in Vizag Agency such as Lambasingi, Araku and other areas in the hills. The private guest houses and lodges in Araku, Ananthagiri, Tyda and Paderu, among others, in the Vizag Agency have been booked for December 31 and January 1.
Not only the chill weather and scenery but also the relatively relaxed police vigil are stated to be the reasons why the youth are heading for these destinations to ring in the new year. “In Vizag, it is not possible to enjoy the New Year bash as we wish as the cops have been imposing restrictions after 1 am. The police is not focusing on some parts of the Araku Valley and we can party the whole night in these areas,” said Mr Anil Kumar, a techie.
“We plan to reach the spot by 6 pm on December 31,” Mr Anil said. Nearly 150 rooms of various guest houses and lodges have been booked in advance, said Mr Siva K, owner of a private guest house in Araku. “The normal tariff is around Rs 1,000 for 24 hours but due to the heavy demand we may hike it,” he said.
