Bengaluru: A gang of three armed men barged into a house and attacked a woman in a bid to rob the house in Malleswaram on Sunday. The woman’s husband arrived just in time and the gang members fled from the spot.

The victim, Nagalakshmi (50), wife of Mr Sampath – was alone at home when the gang struck at their house. Mr Sampath said that the gang gained entry into the house using a set of duplicate keys at around 2.30 pm. Nagalakshmi, who was in the kitchen, came out hearing some noise and saw the men.

They tried to divert her attention, saying they had come to inform her about her maid who had met with an accident. But they immediately attacked her with pepper spray and tied her hands while she tried to call her husband.

They demanded money from her, but when she said that she did not have any at home, they ransacked the house and bundled a few valuables. Just then, Mr Sampath arrived with his aide Mahesh, and one of the gang members, who was standing guard at the entrance, alerted the others and they fled leaving the booty behind.

As they were escaping, the gang members were intercepted by a Hoysala patrolling team. But they hoodwinked the police. The police suspect that the servant of the house could be involved in the crime as the gang had access to the duplicate keys. The servant has been absconding since Sunday afternoon.
