Chennai: It was a “different” birthday wish to TNCC chief E.V.K.S. Elangovan for his unsavoury remark. BJP state president Dr Tamilisai, who is a daughter of former TNCC president, greeted Elangovan and sarcastically asked him to grow up and respect women and women political leaders. Describing him as a “habitual offender,” the senior BJP leader said, “I have told my party workers not to make a big deal out of his remark. We are involved in relief and rescue works after the Tamil Nadu floods, and this is not the right time. Elangovan is only lowering himself by making such statements.”

While addressing a protest meeting on the National Herald case in the Temple city on Saturday, Elangovan called her “karakattakkaari” (a woman who performs Karagattam — a folk dance). A few months ago, he courted trouble when he criticised PM Narendra Modi’s meeting with CM Jayalalithaa.

However, a women’s NGO decided to file a complaint with the police. In a complaint filed by Kalaichelvi on behalf of Tamil Nadu Pengal Sudhesi Padhukappu Iyakkam, she urged the city police commissioner to initiate strict action against Elangovan who has been making repeated attacks on women in public meetings.
‘His statements demeans and lower the integrity of women and hence strict action should be initiated against him.’
