Chennai: Chennaiyin FC’s thrilling victory over FC Goa in the final of the Indian Super League Sunday lost a bit of sheen after their captain Elano Blumer was arrested on charges of attacking the opposition’s co-owner, Dattaraj Salgaocar, at the end of the match. Elano, a member of Brazil’s World Cup squad in 2010, was booked under three IPC sections. The former Manchester City player was made to spend around three hours at Margao police station before coming out on bail.
Rajeev Gomes, Elano’s advocate, slammed the police as well as FC Goa. “The FC Goa management has been disrespectful to the player. Even after the bail was issued, the police was gunning for the Brazilian’s passport. Elano was devastated after the incident. The case is not closed. Elano is allowed to leave the country and a local representative is allowed to represent him in the court hearing,” he added.
