Hyderabad: Police on Tuesday arrested a UP native who allegedly harassed his girlfriend by confining her at his flat in Tolichowki and threatened to upload her obscene picture on social media. Police said Syed Imad Hasan, a software company employee, had stalked her on social media and threatened to upload intimate pictures if she did not marry him. The victim had flown to Dubai a few months ago. But he threatened her to leave Dubai and booked a return ticket for her. She came to Hyderabad five days ago to settle the issue. Joint commissioner of police, Hyderabad, T. Prabhakar said Hasan picked up the woman at the airport and drove her to his apartment at Tolichowki. There he beat her up and took away her phone and passwords and started using them to keep track of her family, the police officer said.
He brought a litre of petrol, a knife and some rope and threatened to murder her if she turned him down. Mr Prabhakar said he subjected her to sexual abuse and tore up her passport. On Monday, while Hasan had gone out, she contacted her friend over Facebook who alerted the victim’s brother in Karnataka. She was later rescued by SHE teams and sent for medical examination. The accused was produced before the court. The police is investigating the case.
