Chennai: After 32-year-old Manpreet Pal, working as airhostess, committed suicide at her home at Meenambakkam here on Sunday evening, neighbors have been left in a state of complete disbelief and shock.
A pall of gloom has descended on the colony as residents are yet to come to terms with the shocking loss. Describing her as a robust and charming person, one of her neighbors who works as an operational staff in Air India, wondered what made her take the extreme step.
“She was an extremely smart lady and was very amicable. People used to respect her a lot and in her office too people liked her personality too. With her husband also she had a very good rapport and they were the best of friends. So something must have happened in the spur of the moment that led to this” added the staffer.
Deeming the tragic incident as a great loss not only to the family and friends but also the company, the neighbor said, “ During her training days, she was among the best of the lot and could pick up things very quickly and her presence itself was very endearing.”
Another woman staying in the Air India quarters said, “ Her schedule was not fixed but she always had a very good behavior and was doing well professionally too and loved her child.
According to police, no suicide note was found, but her parents alleged that long hours and hectic work schedules led to suicide. Meanwhile, at Teacher’s colony, there is darkness at Pal residence with relatives and friends saddened in grief. When the body was taken away none could hold back their tears.
However, an Air India official denied this allegation and said, “We have a lot of flights and timings are different, but that is for everybody”. Air India sources also said that Manpreet had not lodged any official complaint and they are waiting for details from the police investigation report. Meanwhile, the revenue divisional officer continued his probe into the death.
