Kozhikode: City dwellers can soon withdraw money from their postal savings accounts without waiting in the queue. The postal department will install two ATMs in the City—at Head Post Office near Mananchira and at Civil Station Post Office. One more ATM will come up at Kalpetta. The installation process at Kozhikode is progressing along with Kochi.
The ATMs are being launched as part of the government decision to establish 1,000 ATMS across the country. The Kerala circle of India post has been allotted 56 ATMs and the facility has already been implemented at Thiruvananthapuram.
Post offices will also issue ATM debit cards to customers which can be used anywhere in India. Once the Core banking solution (CBS) is implemented, the India Post card can be used in any ATM in the country.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a top official of India Post said that the modernization of the department would bring people closer to it.
“At a time when people are going away from the postal department, by introducing a wide range of services using technology, we can definitely grab their attention back,” the official said.
India Post is implementing the CBS system in the state at a fast pace. Out of the 1508 post offices in the Kerala circle, CBS has been implemented in nearly 300 offices.
The sub post offices in the state will also be upgraded to branch offices and be computerized for better customer service.
“The money disbursed for various government schemes can soon reach the person without any delay, once the process is over,” said the official.
The department is also implementing McCamish software for better transaction of postal life insurance plans.
