KOCHI: A group of young techies from a startup in Kalamassery are bringing a smart phone app for the first time in India which enables users to speak for free to numbers across the country without the aid of the internet.

Initially the call will be limited to three minutes. The internet is only needed to download the app ‘Speakfree’ from the Google playstore and it will connect to phones which do not have the app too.

The business mode sustains on the 15-20 seconds recorded ad that will be aired at the beginning of the talk. Ads will come as messages also after the talk.

The revenue from the ads will be shared by the startup and the service providers who will link with each other to connect between services.

Those having a smart phone need to have a ‘range’ for their phone to make the call using the app. The application has been launched by Sumbav Communication and the team comprises Mohammed Nazeem (CEO), Sabu T Raghavan (COO), Ahamed Rafeeq, Hafeer Abdul Latif and Valanto Alappat.

“This app is only for calls and there will not be any provision for text messaging. It will initially be available on Android platforms. We are making the smart phone as the ad medium. We are changing the way the youth think. We will initially target a base of 1 lakh users as initially only callers from Kerala can do this,” said Mohammed Nazeem.
