Hyderabad: Suspended YSRC MLA Roja faced severe flak in the AP Assembly on Tuesday as demands for a lifetime ban instead of one year were made for her abusive comments against TD Dalit MLA Anita and CM Chandrababu Naidu. AP Assembly Speaker Kodela said in Assembly on Tuesday that he would take severe action against the actress turned politician after going through the video footage and added that there would be no compromise in upholding the dignity of the House and it’s members.
Earlier, ruling TD members including ministers had demanded that the Speaker take action against Ms Roja for insulting Dalit MLA Ms Anitha in the House about deserting her husband. A teary eyed Ms Anitha spoke about the comments made by Ms Roja and said that there would be several reasons for a wife to separate from her husband. He said that Ms Roja called the TD MLAs bandicoots (pandikokkulu) and buffalos (dunnapothulu) and she had no right to enter the House and asked the Speaker to suspend her for the remaining period of the House. She had even called Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu “call money CM” and “sex racket CM”, he added.
The House was discussing Ms Roja’s issue in the Zero Hour. BJP MLA P. Vishnu Kumar Raju said that he had asked the Speaker to consider reducing the suspension period of Ms Roja, but after coming to know that she had insulted a Dalit women member in the House, he was withdrawing his earlier statements on reducing the suspension. Minister Pitala Sujatha said that in the last Session Ms Roja had insulted her and now she had insulted Ms Anitha. Since both were Dalits, she said that Ms Roja had to respect for Dalits. She told YSR Congress chief Mr Y.S. Jagan that if he had any respect for Dalit women, he would suspend Ms Roja from the party.
Minister Mrunalini and other members also demanded the Speaker to take serious action against Ms Roja and give protection to the women MLAs in the House. Later, Speaker Kodela said, “I understand your sentiments; not only those who spoke in the House, but even those who did not speak will be of the same opinion…even some members of the YSR Congress may be of the same opinion”.
He added that he had collected all the video clippings of the incident and after consulting with the members, he would take action. “There will be no compromise in upholding the dignity of the House and the members,” he said, adding that he hoped that all members would support his decision on Ms Roja. He said that in the past when Ms Roja had tendered an apology to the House, her suspension had been revoked and he had thought that she would change her behaviour, but nothing had changed.
YSRC No Trust plan on Speaker:
The YSR Congress has decided to move a no-confidence motion against AP Assembly Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao for allegedly conducting the proceedings of the Assembly in an unfair manner. Opposition leader Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday met his party MLAs and it was unanimously decided to move the motion. YSRC deputy floor leader Mr Jyothula Nehru said, “Our party has taken strong objection to the style of functioning of the Speaker and we have to take the unfortunate decision to move a no-confidence motion. Earlier too we had thought of moving the motion but gave it a second thought assuming that the proceedings would go on smoothly, but things did not improve and went from bad to worse.”
YSRC alleged they were not allowed to raise the social issue of the call money cum sex racket by the Treasury benches. “While legislative affairs minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu moved a motion to suspend a member for one day, the Speaker made it two days.” he said. YSRC will serve the notice to the Speaker on Wednesday.
