Chennai: The ongoing tussle for control over the powerful Nadar community in the city took a nasty turn on Wednesday with a splinter group of the 62-year-old Nellai Thoothukudi Nadar Mahimai Paripalana Sangam here alleging multi-crore corruption by office-bearers.

The association controls buildings and lands in various parts of the city and a school, totally worth over Rs 500 crore. T. Rajkumar Nadar, a sangam member and ex-correspondent of a school at Kottivakkam, run by the association, on Wednesday approached the city police alleging the present office-bearers were not ready to disclose accounts and had swindled crores of rupees in the name of land purchase and developing school infrastructure. It was also alleged they were not ready to conduct association election.

The complainant had named president T. Padmanabhan, secretary Chandran Jayapalan, school correspondent Vikrama Raja and treasurer Mari Thangam as part of the group which indulged in corrupt activities.

All the four are continuing as office-bearers since 2005 to swindle money, the petitioner said. They have even started an educational trust last year to gobble up all income and nobody could ask details of expenses.

The petitioner alleged that the four office-bearers together had swindled over Rs 18 crore and cheated over 15,400 members of the association. When contacted, Padmanabhan said the complainant was part of the Kottivakkam school administration till seven years ago. After Vikrama Raja became the school correspondent, the entire infrastructure was improved on a large-scale. The student strength went up from 1,500 to 3,500. “We got some of the best teachers there. We added buildings and other infrastructure. Everything was going smoothly. Now it looks like Rajkumar wanted to be back in school administration. Last month, his men had stormed  the office when the executive committee meeting was going on. We had even lodged a complaint with the Egmore police,” said Padmanabhan.
