Ongole: 212 mobike riders die in road accidents in 2015

24x7 checking at four check-posts led to reduction of the fatal accidents

Ongole: As many as 212-two wheeler riders were killed in the road accidents in Prakasam district during this year. Of this, 201 two wheeler riders died from head injuries and were not wearing a helmet. Four died in spite of wearing a helmet. Seven died due to other reasons. In addition to this, 35 pillion-riders and 55 riders died in road accidents in Prakasam district during this year.

Some among the youth consumed liquor and died in road accidents. They are also not wearing a helmet. The government enforced compulsory helmet rule since November 12 and have been booking cases against them. As many as 541 persons died in road accidents in the district.

The police booked 1,13,025 cases under the Motor Vehicles Act and collected a penalty of Rs 3,50,09,000. The police booked 13,832 cases for not wearing the helmets and collected a penalty of Rs 20,43,800. The cops using interceptor booked 9,827 cases against speeding vehicles and collected a penalty of Rs 24,00,300 cases.

As many as 69 murders, 59 attempt to murder and 57 kidnapping cases were reported during this year. While, 22 women were murdered last year, 18 women were murdered during this year. Similarly, 419 harassment cases booked under 498(A) of IPC and nine dowry deaths were reported. The police booked 268 cases for outraging the modesty of women.

Prakasam SP Srikanth said that the fatal road accidents reduced by ten per cent on the national highways because of steps taken by the police department. They have introduced 24x7 patrolling on the NH with 3 vehicles. Likewise, 24x7 checking at four check-posts which led to reduction of fatal accidents in 24 police station limits in the district. He further said that, they had introduced I-Clicks, Abha-yam app to extend assistance to women in danger.

They are going to introduce police communication and tracking system, e-broadcast system very soon. Replying to a question, he said that they had computerised finger prints of 16,000 accused in various crime cases for the speedy investigation of cases.
