Kerala High Court nod for prosecutor in LIS case
The appointment of the prosecutor can only be made on public interest.

Kochi: Kerala High Court has upheld the appointment of senior lawyer S. Sreekumar as the special public prosecutor to conduct the LIS financial fraud case.
A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice A. M. Shaffique, also dismissed a petition filed by Kuriachan Chacko, Panampilly Nagar, and other defendants in the case challenging a single Bench order.
The petitioners submitted that the appointment of a special prosecutor by the state has been done without following the procedure as required by Section 24 (4), 24 (5) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The appointment of the prosecutor can only be made on public interest. But it was made based on the request of state police chief T.P. Senkumar who is a witness in the case. “It is illegal,” the petitioner submitted.
The court, however, refused to accept the contention and dismissed the plea. DGP T. Asaf Ali argued that the appointment was made after applying mind.
