Arun Jaitley slams ‘vulgar’ Aam Aadmi Party
‘Political discourse cannot be couched in vulgar language’ – Arun Jaitley.
New Delhi: Wondering if “vulgarity” was a “new norm of Indian politics”, Union finance minister Arun Jaitley Thursday hit out at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and AAP leaders for lowering the level of public discourse, and warned the Congress the AAP’s success in Delhi doesn’t mean “vulgarity brings votes.”
He added in a Facebook post: “People in positions are expected to act with restraint. They cannot be outlandish. Vulgarity is not a right available to them. Political discourse cannot be couched in vulgar language. Falsehood delivered with vulgar overtones is not a substitute of truth.”
Mr Jaitley also urged the Congress leadership to “seriously explore” if its “disproportionate and irrational approach” in Parliament was “hurting” institutions.
