8 killed, 20 injured in Tumakuru accident
Two KSRTC buses collided head-on near Siddapur Gate in Tiptur of Tumakuru.
TUMAKURU: Eight people, including two women and two drivers, were killed on the spot, while 20 other passengers were injured in a head-on-collision between two KSRTC buses near Siddapur Gate in Tiptur of Tumakuru district at 1 am on Friday.
Two passengers, who are injured severely, have been shifted to a hospital in Bengaluru. The deceased have been identified as Udayashankar, 65, his wife Rukmini, 55, Anand, 28 of Shivamogga, Prakash, 30, and Srinvas, 35, of Tamil Nadu, Chayadevi, 58, of Bengaluru, and driver Maharudra, 35, from Bailahongala and another driver Anandappa, 35, from Chitradurga.
The accident occurred as the two buses were speeding. One of the buses was going towards Sagar from Bengaluru, while the other from Shivamogga to Tiruvanamallai. Villagers nearby, who heard a loud crashing noise, rushed to the spot and helped in shifting the injured to various hospitals.
The Bangaluru-Honnavara Highway was blocked for over three hours. Honnavalli police, who came to the spot, cleared the traffic.
