SalemWith tourists and residents forced to wade through sewage pools on the Yercaud road in Salem for the last two months, the residents have demanded the immediate construction of a drainage in the area.

The Congress has threatened to stage a major protest if the drainage is not constructed soon to end the flow of sewage gushing onto the streets. According to the local residents, the sewage water stagnates on the Yearcaud
main road regularly without a drainage outlet.

The local residents, motorists and tourists are facing hardship, besides health hazard due to the pool of sewage water stagnating in middle of the road. Meanwhile, the city Congress Committee president, S.B. Meganathan threatened to stage an agitation, if the corporation fails to construct drainage.

“The pool of sewage water remains on the road for the past two months. The rainy season makes the situation worse for the motorists. During the recent heavy rain a month ago, a TNSTC bus got stuck in the water.”
When the residents staged a road roko, the corporation officials assured immediate action.

The stagnated water was drained out, but only temporarily. “However, the situation remains same now and people have to wade through the sewage. Tourists, school students and public are severely affected.”
