THRISSUR: Opposition leader V. S. Achuthanandan will open the Oottupura of Trikkur Mathikkunnu Bhagavathy Temple in Thrissur on January 4. The participation of the veteran communist leader in a temple event is viewed in the political circles as a move to take the majority community into confidence as the BJP and SNDP were talking about a third front in the state.
Temple Trust president Aaviyan Mohanan said the majority of the 40-member committee was pro-left and those with BJP and Congress affiliation in the nine-member executive committee also supported Mr Achuthanandan inaugurating oottupura.
“It has no political implication. The temple committee was looking for a well-known public figure to dedicate oottupara of the temple that allows people of all faiths following norms to enter it,” he said.
