Following close on the heels of her mentor and good friend Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, too, has tried her hand at singing. The actress recently recorded her first single, Aaj Mood Ishqaholic. On the film front, too, she has a lot going on. In a candid chat, she reveals about her upcoming projects, turning towards the action genre, her father Shatrughan Sinha and of course her latest love, singing. Excerpts:
What made you think of trying out singing?
Honestly, I have dreamt of it since childhood. When I was shooting for Lootera, I had expressed my desire to sing but no one took me seriously. Much later, I came up with the idea of a song and a rap. I even conceptualised the video. I am very satisfied with the song. But I still won’t go so far as to say that I have become a singer. I only want to entertain people in as many ways I can.
Are you also singing for your next film Akira?
There was only one song left to record and I was supposed to sing it. But since we had promised the song to Nahid Afrin of Indian Idol Junior 2, she will be singing it now.
We are seeing you dabble in action movies now. Besides Akira, there’s also Force 2 with John Abraham and Tahir. Tell us about your experience of working with them?
Force 2 is my first official international looking film. It was a great experience. We shot in Budapest, which is such a beautiful place. The unit was good and punctual. I have also done some action in the film.
Have you taken any formal training in stunts?
I trained in marshal arts for Akira, which helped me in Force 2 as well. Akira is a woman-centric film — the director Murugadoss has made me the “hero” in it. I’m really looking forward.
Have you signed any other films?
No. I am in talks, but I have no other film besides Akira and Force 2.
Dabangg 3 is being scripted. Let’s see…
Your father is very vocal about your career. Do you also give him advice at times, when things go wrong for him, politically?
Absolutely! He has always been very direct, he’s the most honest person I know. I support him always. And I believe that whatever he says, there is some meaning to it.
