Award for poet Goreti Venkanna
Sahitya Vikasam, written by editor of Andhra Jyothy daily K. Srinvas was launched.
Khammam: Prominent poet Goreti Venkanna was presented an award on Sunday by the Muvva Padmavathi-Rangaiah Foundation on Sunday. The balladeer is popular Telugu poet and folk singer. His song Palle Kanneru Pedutundo in Kubusam Telugu movie got him fame.
Minister for roads and buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao has presented the award to Mr Venkanna at a programme held in Ramadas Kalakshetram in Khammam on Sunday. The minister said that the poets and balladeers can smell the issues of the society prior to other people because they used to see the issues in separate angles. Telangana Public Service Commission chairman Ganta Chakra-pani said that the balladeer narrated the importance of nature through his songs. Press Academy chairman Allam Narayana, senior journalist T. Ravi, poet Muvva Srinivasa Rao, Yakoob, Sikhamani and Vamsi Krishna took part in it.
On the other hand, the book Telangana Sahitya Vikasam, written by editor of Andhra Jyothy daily K. Srinvas was launched on the occasion. Srinivas explained the emergence of Telangana literature for the last 100 years. “Telangana poets wrote poetry by taking the issues witnessed in the society,” he said.
Another book Music Dies written by senior journalist Arun Sagar was also launched. The book, volume of 10 poems, depicted the problems of Adivasis with the construction of Polavaram Project. “The culture, traditions and life of Adiavasis will be invisible with the construction of the dam,” Mr Sagar said. Poet B. Prasen said that the Sagar assessed correctly the problems of Adivasis with the Polavaram project. “Arun Sagar depicted the problems of Adivasis with the Polavaram project in his poetry,” he said.
