Hyderabad: Conveying his displeasure at the way the Telugu Desam’s Telangana state unit was functioning, party national president and AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday made it clear that a strong leader was needed for the party to take on the ruling TRS in the state.
Reviewing the party function with key leaders of the party’s TS unit, Mr Naidu said that lack of coordination would hurt the party.
According to TD sources, the party chief was quite disturbed at the lack of coordination between the three key leaders of TS TD unit — L. Ramana, Errabelli Dayakar Rao and A. Revanth Reddy and their approach to any issue facing the party.
Mr Naidu even chided a leader who said that it would be better if he visited the state and gave directions to the party leaders every week.
He told them that this was not possible for him due to his busy schedule in Andhra Pradesh, and that they should not rely on him for everything.
“As party’s national president I can only provide you a direction. It is for you to take it (party) forward, you will have to identify issues and fight. You just cannot depend on me for everything,” the AP Chief Minister reportedly observed.
Later, during his separate interaction with the leaders, issues of internal bickering among party leaders, lack of coordination and interest in running party affairs were mentioned.
It was then that Mr Naidu told the leaders that he was already on the lookout for a strong leader to lead the party and take on the TRS.
“A leader from a powerful caste, who can take every section along, who is financially strong, articulate, loyal to the party, has the killer instinct to take on KCR… all these are required,” he reportedly said.
Mr Naidu also told the party leaders that in case he directly intervened in the party’s TS unit affairs and issues, it would mean a direct fight between him and TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao, a development that will be advantageous to the TS CM, as the latter is the son of the soil and is known to be someone who always plays the T-sentiment card.
“I will extend all support to you but you lack the fighting spirit. What can I do,” Mr Naidu reportedly said.
