Hyderabad: Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on Monday said that culture can never be faked and the more you live it, the more sustainable your business approach becomes.

According to a person who attended the event, Mr Nadella told starts-up not to lose sight of long-term goals. “Often near-term plans get overestimated, while long-term plans get underestimated. But long-term plans are as important as short-term goals. So you have to keep an eye on long-term plans even while short-term goals,” Mr Nadella said.

Talking about Microsoft’s involvement in T-Hub, he said, “We are here to be a part of your success, with our accelerators where we aim to work with T-Hub. But most of all, I am here to be inspired by your dreams.”

According to sources, Microsoft CEO wanted to understand the needs of start-ups, so that his company can address them in its products. He asked start-ups to work on using the much talked about white space technology to provide last mile connectivity in rural areas. “One of the things I feel that is most important is connectivity. So, there needs to be a market-based solution and also a local entrepreneur that goes out and creates that last mile connectivity that offers affordable solutions,” he said.

Mr Melokte, another Hyderabad-born success story spoke about his entrepreneurial journey. “I have told budding entrepreneurs about the importance of culture. I said setting up culture is very very important for start-ups. Because culture outlives everything. It outlives founders and employees. So founders have to be very conscious of how they are building the value system,” Mr Melkote told this newspaper later.

Talking about India’s start-up ecosystem, he said, “the Silicon Valley was built in the last 50-60 years. So it can’t happen in one or two years. It is a good start. Maybe it will not take 50 years here, but it will at least take 10 years for the entire startup ecosystem to develop in Hyderabad.”
