KOZHIKODE: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will seek central funds for the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Malappuram centre during a meeting with Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani soon. He will also demand an amendment to the rule to establish a high school on the AMU campus.
The decision was taken during a meeting held by the Chief Minister with AMU Vice- Chancellor Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah in Kozhikode on Monday. According to the University Act, a high school can be started only 15 km from the main centre on the campus.
Though the Kerala MPs have presented private Bills to amend this rule, officially a Bill has not yet been presented.
“The Malappuram campus was supposed to get'75 crore this financial year, but was allocated only Rs 15 crore. Though Rs 25 crore more was allotted, it has yet to reach the account. Only if the centre allotted the full amount, the campus functioning will go on without interruption,” the VC said.
Urban Affairs Minister Manjalamkuzhi Ali and AMU Malappuram campus director Dr Abdul Azeez were also present during the meeting
