e-boarding is in at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport
The facility, first in India, provides hassle-free boarding to passengers.
Hyderabad: The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad became the first in India to launch e-boarding facility for domestic passengers, with Union Civil Aviation Minister, Ashok Gajapathi Raju formally launching the facility on Monday.
He said the facility would be extended to international passengers.
The e-boarding facility provides passengers with a hassle-free process starting from entry into the terminal, check in, security check, boarding gate and the boarding bridge before entering the aircraft.
“The process leads to enhanced security where passenger details are checked online with the airline departure control system at the main entry and security checks for authenticity, thereby avoiding fake entries,” said Mr S.G.K. Kishore, CEO of GMR Hyderabad International Airport.
The movement of e-boarding card holders is tracked electronically through CCTV cameras, which improves airport security.
It was launched as a pilot project in Feb. 2015, with support from Jet Airways; Air India and Spicejet joined later.
e-boarding eliminates boarding cards, even those issued by the Common Use Self Service machines or at the check in counters.
In Feb. 2015, the pilot project was launched at Hyderabad and Bengaluru airports.
Initially, Jet Airways joined the project, followed by Air India and Spicejet and Indigo Airlines is expected to join by Jan. 2016.
At a later stage, international fliers will also be brought under this facility.
