Vijayawada: The Krishna waters are likely to get polluted due to release of waste waters by industries in Amaravati . The Amaravati master plan estimates that 0.002 tmcft waste water would be generated per day by industries in the vicinity of the capital city. The planners said the waste waters might be released into water ponds through the municipal sewage system. The high-density polluted waters released into water ponds are naturally connected to river Krishna.
However, they did not clearly show where the ponds would be linked to river Krishna, upstream or downstream Prakasam barrage. They propose to carry the waters for irrigation purpose by tankers and the remaining would be released into ponds. It is learnt that the irrigation experts and drainage board members had already submitted representations to the Singapore planners to establish a new channel upto the sea beside river Krishna for drainwater purpose but it has not been considered in the plan.
According to the plan, the present 0.5 kg municipal waste being generated per capita would increase to 0.813 kg per capita by the year 2050. After chalking out the master plan, a detailed feasibility study should be carried out for the sewerage system proposed locations of the STPs, effluent discharge locations and treatment technology. Former drainage board member Erneni Nagendranath said that river Krishna should not be polluted like river Moosi in Hyderabad. A new parallel channel should be established for drainwaters to avoid polluting river Krishna, he added.
