Plenum’s call for ‘mass line’ old wine
According to Dr Thomas Isaac, the biggest example of disconnect with people was Bengal itself.
THIRUVANANTHAPRUAM: CPM Kolkata plenum's call for adopting "mass line" was mooted two decades ago but the party organisation failed to implement it effectively.
Delegates taking part in the discussions on plenum document pointed out that passing resolutions and adopting "line" would not be enough till corrective measures were taken and a stringent system was put in place to effectively implement tough decisions.
The rectification documents adopted by the CPM in 1996 and then in 2010 had called for eschewing all un-Communist-like virtues, bureaucratism, factionalism, arrogance, extravagant lifestyle and any type of malpractices which were alien to the norms of being a Communist.
Even the Kerala party had brought out a 150-page rectification document at its plenum at Palakkad in 2013. The document referred to social evils that had crept into the cadre and leaders particularly problems like alcoholism, nexus with land, sand and quarry mafia.
The plenum had even come out with stringent criteria to ensure that the membership of such shady characters was not renewed at the time of conferences. But all these decisions remained on paper.
According to Dr Thomas Isaac, the biggest example of disconnect with people was Bengal itself. "There were no allegations against Bengal leaders, they all led a spartan life. But I doubt if they had any inkling of the rot that had set in the party organisation at all levels," the CPM central committee member said in a Facebook post.
