Students observe day of the fearless
24 hours@Kozhikode programme conducted as part of of showing their respect to Nirbhaya
KOZHIKODE: Around 20 girls and 15 boys, all from the Multi Media Communication Department of Farook College, spilled over to every nook and corner of Kozhikode with their cameras to freeze frames of a day in the city. It was as part of showing their respect to Nirbhaya, meaning fearless, the woman who was brutally gangraped in Delhi three years ago, the 24 hours@Kozhikode programme was conducted.
Extending solidarity to the country’s voice requesting Central Government to declare December 29 as Nirbhaya Day in honour of the girl, the students of Farook College decided to come up with the unique venture of capturing the moments of the city in 24 hours.
The cultural authenticity of Kozhikode, hospitality of people, humanity of folks, culinary specialty of the city and the trade and commerce of Kozhikode are what these young media students captured with their camera.
Talking about the venture, one of the media and communication students of Farook College said, “Many voices have been raised in the last one year requesting that the government declare December 29 as Nirbhaya Day and we are also in the streets demanding the same”. This is our small way of showing respect to the girl who represents thousands of fearless women in the society.
“More than 20 girl students of our institution took charge of leading our photographers team to capture the beauty of the city in all its authenticity”, he added.
The team is now planning to host an exhibition of the photographs and video clicked during the day and record it as a document of Kozhikode city. The official launch of the programme was inaugurated at Kozhikode beach on Tuesday.
