Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Literary Festival will start on an interesting note on January 8 as Nayantara Sehgal, who started the ‘award wapsi’ protests this year, will be taking part in a panel discussion on ‘Free Speech and Censorship’.

During the three-day event, lovers of dance, theatre, films and of course literature will hear experts deliver talks, take part in workshops and panel discussions. Five films made by students of the University of Hyderabad will be screened at the festival, including one about the journey of a teacher from Hyderabad to New York in search of Sufism.

More than 30 panel discussions will take place during the fest on topics ranging from ‘Love across Cultures’ and ‘Indian Drama in English’ to ‘Revisiting History’ and ‘Gay Writing and Gender Identity’.

The fest will also feature differently-abled authors. Marathi residents of Hyderabad will have a lot to look forward to as this year’s language in focus is Marathi. Discussions and talks on Marathi films, dance, literature, poetry and story-telling are part of the festival.

There will be workshops for children like a ‘cow dung toy making’ and one on ‘From literary to real life super dogs’. Literature of Singapore will also be in focus as it is the guest nation for the 2016 episode of the Hyderabad Literary Festival.
