New DelhiTelecom regulator Trai on Wednesday extended by a week to January 7 the last date for receiving comments on its paper on differential data pricing. If reports are to be believed, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg himself is calling entrepreneurs  to garner support for Free Basics in India. India is the second-largest user-base for Facebook after US with 130 million users.

Under Free Basics users can access some websites, including Facebook, for free without paying Internet charges. The company said Free Basics is to introduce people to the value of the Internet through hundreds of free basic services, beyond Facebook.

The issue of Free Basics flared after Trai earlier this month issued a consultation paper on the issue of whether telecom operators should be allowed to charge consumers differently for accessing different websites or apps.
