Bengaluru: Bus overturns, two killed

The condition of three passengers is said to be critical.

Bengaluru: In a freak accident, two people were killed on the spot, while several others injured after a private bus lost control, crashed into an iron railing and overturned in Bhuvanahalli in Devanahalli traffic police limits on Wednesday morning.

The deceased have been identified as bus cleaner, Nagendra, 19, a resident of Chikkaballapur, and Murali Kumar, 25, an employee of a private finance firm and a resident of Chikkabalapur. Nagendra had joined Venkateshwar Travels, which was operating the bus, around 20 days ago.

The condition of three passengers is said to be critical, while around 15 to 20 passengers escaped with minor injuries. Injured victims were shifted to a nearby hospital. The accused driver abandoned the vehicle and fled from the spot after the accident.

The private bus (KA40 5832) was heading from Chikkaballapur to Bengaluru when the accident occurred at Kannamangalapalya in Bhuvanahalli around 8.30 am. The police said that the bus driver, who was speeding, lost control of the vehicle when he noticed a car coming from the service road. To avoid collision, he swerved, lost control and crashed into the railing that runs along the highway.

With the impact, the bus overturned leaving the two dead on the spot.

Passersby rushed to the help of victims and alerted the police. The Devanahalli traffic police shifted the injured to nearby hospitals.

The Devanahalli traffic police registered a case and have launched a manhunt to nab the accused driver.
