Chennai: City police arrested a house owner in Chitlapakkam after his tenants’ complained that he had fixed a camera in their bathroom without their knowledge. The tenants are a group of four young women working at a beauty parlour in the area. Thiagarajan, 30, works at a private company in Guindy and lives with his parents on the ground floor of their house in Gomati Nagar in Chitlapakkam. He had rented out the first floor of the house to a group of four women who had come to the city for work only four months ago.
The women had informed the owner that there was no clothes holders or hooks in the bathroom and that they would fix it themselves. However, Thiagarajan insisted that he would fix it the next day since he feared the women might damage the wall. As planned the owner fixed a hook onto the wall on Monday.
When one of the women was showering in the bathroom next day, she found there was something strange about the hook and suspected there might be a camera hidden inside. When she informed the other women, they all got together and removed the hook and found the camera placed inside. Anxious about what to do and fearing that they might be thrown out of the house if they approached the owners, the women eventually decided to approach the police.
When the police went to Thiagarajan’s house and found the videos of the women, they immediately arrested him on Tuesday evening and booked him under various sections including harassment of women. The accused was produced before the Tambaram court and has been remanded for 15 days to Puzhal jail.
The police are also investigating to find out if Thiagarajan has used the videos for other purposes or if he has uploaded any online. The cops are also looking into his history to find if he has been involved in such activities. The police are also speaking to previous tenants to find out if they faced similar harassment.
