CHENNAI: The police have arrested 20 DMDK members, including an MLA, after they were accused of pelting stones at journalists who were protesting outside Vijayakanth’s house on Arcot Road at Virugambakkam here, on Thursday. Nearly 50 journalists have been protesting in the last two days outside the politician’s house after he allegedly spat at the media at Madhya Kailash.

On Thursday, B. Parthasarathy, Virugambakkam MLA, arrived with 19 other DMDK members and started throwing stones at journalists. The newspersons ran helter skelter. Five of them, Anbalagan, Arputharaj, Vasanth, Vetri and Varahi, were injured and were admitted to ESI Hospital at K.K. Nagar. The police arrested Parthasarathy and  other 19 DMDK members. A case has been registered against them for offences including criminal intimidation, rioting and damaging public property.

Vijayakanth claimed that most of the protesters weren’t journalists, but were AIADMK members. He also claimed that the MLA and other party members had themselves arrived at the scene to file a complaint against the protesters, but the police were of no help to them.
