Hyderabad: An infant abandoned by the mother in the fields outside the village, immediately after delivery succumbed due to ill health on Friday in Nalgonda district. M. Sunitha delivered a female baby in the fields on the midnight of Thursday. Women who came to answer nature’s calls in the morning found the baby and alerted the police.

Sources said that M. Sunitha 35, a native of Komatikunta village in Nereducherla mandal of Nalgonda district is working as a daily wage earner. She married M. Amaraiah nearly 10 years ago and had two children.

Nearly five years ago, her sister also married Amaraiah. Though married to Amaraiah, both women maintained illegal relations with others in the village. This attitude did not change even after Amaraiah warned them many times. Fed up of their behaviour Amaraiah left them nearly six months ago.

Since then, both sisters are staying in the village. The intervention of village elders also could not change them. As a result, Sunitha got pregnant.

On Thursday at around 11.30 pm, she started getting labour pains and she rushed to the fields where village women usually go to answer nature’s calls and delivered the baby in the fields and left her in the fields and went home.

On Friday morning, women found the baby and handed her over to Anganwadi workers, who shifted the infant to hospital. She succumbed at the hospital.

During investigation, police found that the baby was Sunitha’s child.
“We are investigating her. Based on that we will take action,” said Nereducherla SI, D. Venkateshwarlu.
