H Anjaneya ushers in 2016 with siddis

Hubballi: Social welfare minister H. Anjaneya celebrated the New Year, staying overnight at a tribal village at Wada in Uttara Kannada and announced a Rs 52.35 crore package for the development of Siddi community.
He promised to complete 11 projects within a span of six months to bring forest dwellers to the mainstream by utilising funds to improve their educational standards. He heard grievances of the community and held a discussion with officials to resolve them. He relished vegetarian food at the residence of tribal couple Kaithan Ghadi and Clara with local Congress leaders. The tribals presented their traditional dance and music through the night. The minister welcomed the New Year by cutting a cake at midnight. Considering the physical fitness and strength of the Indo-African tribe, he promised to build a high-tech sports hostel for Siddis. Grants to 100 Siddi women’s self-help groups, drilling free borewells in their farmland, a hostel for girls and basic amenities including water, drains, electricity, roads and a community hall are among the projects which he announced.
He promised to build residential schools in Yallapur and Haliyal taluks for the children of Siddis.
