Situation remains tense in Pathankot, NIA to probe terror attack

Pathankot: The death toll of the martyred in the Pathankot Air Force Base attack has risen to six so far as three more defence personnel succumbed to their injuries.

One of the terrorists called his mother in Pakistan's Punjab province to seek her blessings. According to reports, the attacker asked his mother to bless him before he goes ahead with the fidayeen (suicide) mission.
A little before the Pathankot terror attack started a call was intercept by security agencies that would confirm the horror about to strike.
 
Meanwhile, security was also stepped up in the national capital and several states including airports, railway stations, bus stands and other vital installations.
IAF helicopters could be seen flying over the base and nearby areas through the night and since early Sunday to assist ground forces in the operations.

The technical area, where the IAF's MIG-21 fighter jets, MI-35 attack helicopters and other critical assets were stationed, was secure, they said.
The security around the area remained tight and defence personnel were seen patrolling the area.
The attackers are believed to belong to Jaish-e-Mohammad headed by Maulana Masood Azhar of the Kandahar hijack episode.
Search and combing operation continued at the base a day after a gunfight that lasted over 17 hours. On Saturday, three security personnel were also killed after the attackers breached a high-security perimetre and entered the IAF base.
Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe in the attack and has reportedly sought assistance from the Punjab police and the Central Intelligence Bureau.
The accidental explosion occurred when the site was being searched and the personnel accidentally set of a discarded explosive which was reportedly hidden in bushes.
Earlier on Sunday, a defence personnel was injured in the combing operations that resumed this morning.
A Garud commando and two Defence Security Corps (DSC) personnel succumbed to their injuries in the hospital last night. So far, eight DSC jawans and a Garud commando have been injured in the terrorist attack on the Air Base.
