Vatican City: As a child, Pope Francis thought of becoming a butcher, the pontiff told several thousand choristers from all over the world during an audience at the Vatican.
“When I was a boy, I thought about becoming a butcher,” Francis told around 6,000 child singers from the international Pueri Cantores children’s choir on Thursday. The Argentine pontiff added he always enjoyed seeing the butchers at their trade in their market stalls in Buenos Aires during his childhood.
Meanwhile, welcoming the new year, Pope Francis also said it’s time to end indifference and “false neutrality” regarding the injustice, persecution, wars and misery in the world.
Francis said people wonder how it’s possible that “the arrogance of the powerful continues to demean the weak, relegating them to the most squalid outskirts of our world.” He urged people to overcome indifference and “leave behind the false neutrality which prevents sharing.” Francis’ formula for peace centers on cooperating to build “an ever more just and fraternal world.”
