Big Bash League betting racket in Hyderabad, 6 arrested

Police seize TV, three hotline boxes, 18 cell phones and Rs 20,000 cash.

Hyderabad: The city police on Sunday claimed to have busted a cricket betting racket with the arrest of six people.

The bets were being placed on the Big Bash League in Australia.

The sleuths of Commissioner's Task Force (West Zone) nabbed bookies Mukesh Sharma alias Pappu, Mohammad Azar and Prashanth Sharma while allegedly accepting bets on cellphone on a match between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder during the ongoing tournament in Australia.

Police also arrested Asifullah Khan, a "punter", and Hemanth Mishra and Mahesh Taneji Rao who worked at the betting establishment, and seized a TV, three hotline boxes, 18 cellphones and Rs 20,000 cash, a police release said.

They were handed over to Bahadurpura police station for further probe.
