Bengaluru police arrests seven notorious thieves, recovers 35 lakh valuables
Accused roams around in guise of balloon sellers in residential areas and returned in night to theft.
Bengaluru: The Whitefield police have arrested seven notorious thieves who identified locked houses in the guise of balloon sellers and committed thefts. The police have recovered valuables worth '35 lakh from them.
The accused have been identified as Ranbeer Singh alias Kaalia, 32, Ram Babu, 27, Dharma, 25, Murugesh, 50, Dheeraj alias Dada, 32, Beeru, 22, and Devendra Soni, 38. All the six hail from Madhya Pradesh, except Dada who is from Uttar Pradesh.
The accused roamed around in residential areas in the guise of balloon sellers, identify houses that were locked and returned in the night to commit thefts. Their modus operandi was to break open either the lock or the window grill to gain entry into the house.
“With their arrest, 13 house theft cases in various police stations have been cracked. We have recovered 1.248 kg of gold jewels and more than 2.5 kg of silver articles worth Rs 35 lakh from the accused. It is suspected that they committed similar offences in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Punjab and we are questioning them,” the police said.
It was a big gang of around 50 people and the other members have absconded. “The accused lived under flyovers, graveyards and dilapidated buildings. The women in the gang conducted recces of the houses locked, and based on their information, the men committed thefts in the night. We got information about these thieves when we conducted the Area Domination I Operation, which is conducted during nights. These accused were arrested based on a CCTV footage that was available when they committed theft in a house recently. More information was available in our records and they were nabbed,” said P. Harisekaran, Additional Commissioner of Police (East).
