Bengaluru: In a horrific accident, two brothers were charred to death after their motorbike collided with an onion-laden truck on Hosur Main Road near Old Chandapura in Hebbagodi police limits in Bengaluru Rural on Monday evening.

The deceased have been identified as Govindswamy, 30, and Raju, 28, from Tamil Nadu. The police said that efforts are on to nab the truck driver, who fled after the accident.

The truck was moving towards Tamil Nadu and the brothers too were heading to Hosur when a speeding car tried to overtake it. The truck driver, who failed to notice the bike riders in the front, swerved left and crashed into the motorbike. The brothers were caught under the truck and were dragged for about 20 metres before some passersby shouted and signaled the truck driver to stop. But by then, the bike’s fuel tank exploded and caught fire. Soon, the entire truck was engulfed in flames, and the two brothers were charred to death, the police said. The driver, fearing an attack from the mob, jumped out of the vehicle and fled.

After an alert was sounded, the police arrived at the spot with the fire department personnel and doused the fire. Traffic on the busy National Highway 7 was disrupted for over an hour, and the situation returned to normal only around 8 pm, the police said.

The bodies of the brothers were taken to the government hospital for the postmortem.
