With the first Grand Slam of the year two weeks away — the Australian Open — Caroline Wozniacki has finally touched down in New Zealand as she begins preparations slightly later than planned..

The Dane is due to take part in the ASB Classic and arrived ahead of the event which is also due to feature rivals Ana Ivanovic and Venus Williams. On the streets of Auckland, Wozniacki enjoyed a brief exhibition match alongside Ivanovic as the duo begin preparations for the start of the Australian Open on January 18. Wozniacki teamed up with netballer Maria Tutaia to play Ivanovic and television presenter Makere Bradnam in a friendly game of street tennis on Newmarket’s Broadway. Having arrived in New Zealand three days later than Ivanovic, Wozniacki revealed that a friend’s wedding was the reason for her late arrival.

“My friend was getting married, so I couldn’t really miss that,’ Wozniacki said. “I sleep well on planes, I slept for 12 hours on the way over here and another three hours when I got here, so I’ll be fine.”
