Madras High Court dismisses as withdrawn Simbu’s petition in ‘Beep’ song controversy
Court to permit the petitioner to withdraw the petition.
CHENNAI: The Madras high court has dismissed as withdrawn, a petition filed by actor Simbu, which sought a directive to the DGP to issue a circular to police stations in the state not to register any FIRs for the same offences based on same complaint with reference to the ‘Beep’ song” against him.
When the petition came up for hearing before Justice R. Subbiah on Thursday, public prosecutor S. Shanmughavelayutham, vehemently opposed the plea of Simbu and said such directions could not be issued.
It was the prerogative of the police to register FIR on the basis of the complaint which discloses cognisable offences.
Senior counsel R. Muthukumarasamy, appearing for Simbu, immediately requested the court to permit the petitioner to withdraw the petition.
Accepting his request, the judge dismissed the petition as withdrawn.
