Parents thrash boy for playing outside
Neighbours noticed that the couple was beating Manohar.
Hyderabad: A three-year-boy was severely beaten by his parents for continuously going out of the house to play.
M. Shivakumar and M. Radhika had allegedly been beating their son, M. Manohar, for the past three days, injuring his left cheek and chin. On Wednesday night they even put him in a water drum. Hearing his cries, the neighbours alerted the police.
The child was sent for medical examination and handed over to Child Welfare department officials.
Police said that Shivakumar and Radhika, natives of Sadashivpet in Medak district, had shifted to Shantinagar in Patan-cheru three months back.
Shivakumar works for a private company in Patancheru while Radhika is a housewife.
Three days ago, their neighbours noticed that the couple was beating Manohar, but they didn’t find anything out of the ordinary.
This continued in the following days, but nobody questioned them.
“On Wednesday night, they heard Manohar crying loudly. They found the child in the drum with bruises on his face and chin and rashes all over the body,” said Patancheru inspector S. Lingeshwar Rao.
The neighbours immediately alerted the police and took him to the police station. He was sent for treatment and after first aid, he was handed over to the Child Welfare department, who shifted him to the care center at Ameenpur.
On inquiry, cops found that the parents beat the child as he went out of the house continuously. Neighbours meanwhile suspect that Shiva-kumar and Radhika might not be married and Manohar might not be their child.
Based on a complaint by Childline director Mr M.S. Chandra, a case under section 324 of IPC (voluntarily causing hurt) and section 23 of the Juvenile Justice Act has been registered against the parents.
