Uphaar tragedy: SC agrees to hear review petition
The verdict on the 18-year-old case, which was passed by the Supreme Court last August.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday, agreed to hear a review petition filed by the CBI and the victim association against the Uphaar case judgement.
The verdict on the 18-year-old case, which was passed by the Supreme Court last August, let off real estate barons Sushil and Gopal Ansal with a fine of Rs 30 crore each and without any additional jail term.
The Supreme Court also restricted the brothers’ jail term to the period already undergone by them.

Fifty-nine people, trapped in the balcony of the theatre, died of asphyxiation following the fire and over 100 were injured in the subsequent stampede on June 13, 1997 during the screening of Bollywood film "Border".
While Sushil had spent over five months in prison, Gopal was in jail for over four months immediately after the tragedy.
